Steel Wool

  • Sharpen dull scissors by cutting a piece of steel wool into pieces.
  • Place steel wool into small holes between pipes and walls to deter mice.
  • If you have a screw that is too small to stay tight, put a little steel wool into the hole before screwing it in.

Peanut Butter

  • If you have gum stuck in hair, rub in a spoonful of peanut butter.
  • Spread peanut butter onto a pine cone, roll it in birdseed and then hang it from a tree for the birds.
  • Peanut butter will remove ink from a plastic toy.  Rub a gob of it over the mark then wash with soap and water.
  • Peanut butter also works to remove stickers from glass, crystal, or metal.

 

White Toothpaste

  • Wash hands with a little toothpaste to remove onion or fish smells from your hands or stains from your fingernails.
  • Remove the gunk buildup on your iron.  Make sure it is not hot and rub in a toothpaste and then rinse with a web cloth.  This also worked for the curling iron.
  • Remove crayon marks from the walls with a little scrub with toothpaste.
  • Rub some toothpaste on the bathroom mirror then wipe clean to prevent it from fogging up from the shower.
  • Clean a scratched CD by applying a little toothpaste and wiping with a dry cloth.
  • Fill small nail holes in the wall.  Once dries use a little dab of paint to match the rest of the wall

 

Talcum Powder

  • Get rid of ants by making a line of talcum powder around your foundation and at doors where ants may get in.
  • Sprinkle powder on carpet or furniture to remove grease stains.
  • Sprinkle a little powder at the roots and brush.  This absorbs the oils and makes hair looks cleaner.

 

Mineral Oil

  • Remove mascara with a cotton ball dipped in mineral oil. 
  • Gum will loosen from hair if mineral oil is dabbed into it.
  • Rub into your wooden cutting board after a thorough cleaning to keep it looking new.

Lemon Juice

 

Baby Oil

  • Rub a little oil onto a tangle necklace chain then use a pin or toothpick to carefully separate the knot.
  • Bandages will peel off much easier when baby oil is applied to the adhesive.
  • Ring a little tight?  Rub some baby oil and twist the ring off.
  • Latex paint can be removed from hands with a generous amount of baby oil.

 

Uncooked Spaghetti

  • Light a candle by using a piece of spaghetti.  Great for lighting those candle in a deep holder.
  • Is that cake done baking?  No toothpick to test it?  Try poking a piece of spaghetti instead.  If it comes out clean, the cake is done.
  • Push pieces of spaghetti into the top of a cake to keep plastic wrap from sticking to the frosting.
  • Use spaghetti as appetizer spears.  This works great for cold foods such as cheese cubes, but hot foods may soften the spaghetti.

 

Fabric Softener Sheets

  • Tuck them into closets, under couch cushions, in the bottom of hampers, dresser drawers, etc for great air freshener.
  • Used sheets make good dusters and also pick up pet hair.
  • Place a dryer sheet in items that will be stored for a period of time.  It will help repel the musty smell.
  • A used dryer sheet in your pocket will get rid of mosquitoes.
  • Static cling have you wanting to change your clothes?  Try rubbing a dryer sheet on the underside of your article of clothing to get rid of the static.

Tires

Attach the tire to a tree and use as a swing.

Attach to a tree limb or tie between to poles or trees and use to practice football or baseball pitching.

Fill with soil and plant flowers or for a small vegetable garden.

Fill with sand and use as a sandbox.

If you have more than one tire tie them together, tread to tread, and let the kids jump through them.  If you use screws to attach the tires, please cover the ends of the screws with caps.  We don't want little legs or hands to get hurt.
