BAKING SODA
Baking soda is a natural scrubbing compound. It is great for baked-on foods used in the Kitchen, bathroom, to clean toys, and even as a beauty aid. Below you will find the many, many uses for this amazing item.
To make a baking soda paste, mix 3 parts of soda to 1 part of water. For a spray solution, mix 4 tablespoons of baking soda to 1 quart of water. Baking soda can also be used dry and then scrubbed with a damp sponge. Soda can also be used dry for carpet freshener.
Around the House:
Counter tops: Formica can be cleaned with baking soda and a damp sponge.
Refrigerator: Clean the refrigerator with baking soda dissolved in water.
Coffee Stains: Coffee and tea stains can be removed by sprinkling some baking soda on the stain then wiping with a damp sponge.
Rust Stains: Rust stains can be removed by pouring baking soda on a slice of lemon.
Grease Fires: Sprinkle baking soda on a grease fire.
Dishwater: A small handful to soapy dish water. Cleans the dishes while softening your hands. Dishes may be a little slippery while wet.
Dishwasher: Fill both compartments with baking soda and run the dishwasher to give it a good cleaning.
Pots & Pans: Remove burn marks by making a paste with baking soda and water.
Garbage Cans: Clean with a past of baking soda and water and then rinse.
Thermos bottles: Clean with soda and water to get rid of smells.
Silver: Place silver item in a dish lined with aluminum foil, shiny side up. Sprinkle with a couple tablespoons of baking soda, then pour hot water over it. The tarnish transfers from the silver to the foil.
Ashtrays: Sprinkle a small amount in the bottom an ashtray to reduce the smell.
Garbage Cans: pour soda into the bottom of the can before replacing the bag. This also works for the diaper pail.
Toilet: Add a cup and let it sit for about an hour. Swirl and flush. A paste can be made to scrub under the rim.
Grease Spots: Sprinkle baking soda on greasy spots on the floor, let it sit, then scrub and rinse.
Odors: Sprinkle soda in shoes to get rid of odors. Clean the furniture and carpets by spreading some soda over the area and gently rubbing it in. Let is sit for at least an hour, then vacuum. This will remove odors, and dirt.
Fruits & vegetables: Wash these by sprinkling some baking soda into some water, soak, and then rinse.
Health & Beauty:
Bug bites / Rashes / Sunburns: Make a paste and apply to skin to relieve itching and discomfort.
Skin Irritation - including Chicken pox and Measles: Sprinkle some baking soda into a bath and soak.
Toothpaste: Make a thick paste and use as any other toothpaste.
Bath: Sprinkle approximately 1/2 cup of soda into a warm bath while the water is running. Great for sensitive skin.
Toys:
Baby doll faces and hands come clean after rubbing with a paste of water and baking soda.
